GA4 is the advanced reporting platform offered free of charge to all through Google and is what replaced Universal Analytics in 2023, the actual sunset occurred in July 2024.

The configuration of GA4 depends on several things – the site model – ecommerce, subscription, consultancy etc and also is very much dependant on the type of plugin utilised and the format of implementation – for example, GTM – this also requiring a standardised data label, while also requiring quite a significant amount of custom coding to deploy the events in such a manner that they populate the GA4 reports, also this configuration effects the quality of data in GAds, especially true of remarketing and targeting. The other major influence it has is the determination of engagement and therefore landing page scores and other quality scores in relation to the content and user experience. This latter element a fundamental element of the many ‘helpful content’ updates occurring throughout 2022 and 2023 and beyond.
